A sweet salty frosting that even the non-peanut-butter lovers will rave about
If you’re a fan of chocolate and peanut butter together, this Peanut Butter Frosting is one you’ll want to keep handy.
It’s creamy, rich and just salty enough to balance the sweetness — and it is particularly delicious piled generously on top of Mandy’s Chocolate Cake. The combination of soft chocolate cake and peanut butter frosting is hard to beat.
This is also a great frosting for chocolate cupcakes, brownies, banana cake or even sandwiched between two chocolate biscuits. Basically, if chocolate is involved, there’s a good chance peanut butter frosting will make it even better.

Peanut Butter Frosting for Chocolate Cake
While you can use this frosting on all sorts of baking, my favourite way to serve it is with Mandy’s Chocolate Cake.
Mandy’s Chocolate Cake has been a popular recipe on my blog for good reason. It’s an easy, reliable chocolate cake and adding peanut butter frosting is a simple way to change it up.
The slight saltiness of the peanut butter cuts through the sweetness of the frosting, while the chocolate and peanut butter flavours work beautifully together. Add a generous swirl over the top of the cake, and you have something that looks impressive without requiring any fancy decorating skills.
What Peanut Butter Should I Use for Frosting?
A smooth peanut butter is the easiest option when you want a creamy frosting.
You can use crunchy peanut butter if you prefer a little texture, but your finished frosting won't be quite as smooth. Natural peanut butters can also vary considerably in consistency, so keep that in mind when making your frosting.
And don't be afraid of a little salt. Chocolate, peanut butter and salt are very good friends, and a tiny pinch can help balance a frosting that tastes a little too sweet.

What Else Can I Use Peanut Butter Frosting On?
Don't feel you need to save this frosting just for chocolate cake. Try it on:
- Chocolate or vanilla cupcakes
- Brownies
- Banana cake
- Chocolate muffins
- Chocolate biscuits or cookies
- A simple vanilla cake
You could also finish your cake with chopped peanuts, chocolate shavings or a little drizzle of melted chocolate if you want to dress it up.
But personally, I think a big swoop of peanut butter frosting over Mandy’s Chocolate Cake is pretty hard to improve on.
Chocolate cake. Peanut butter frosting. Cup of tea.
Job done.
