A quick and easy waffle recipe made using only a Nutribullet (or kitchen blender) and a bowl.
There’s something magical about starting your morning with a piping hot waffle — crisp edges, fluffy insides, and the smell of golden batter filling the kitchen. But if you’re anything like me, mornings can be a whirlwind. That’s why waffles have become my go-to solution. Quick, efficient, and endlessly satisfying, they’re the perfect way to start any day.
A Brief History of Waffles: From Medieval Treat to Modern Delight
Did you know waffles have a fascinating history? The word “waffle” comes from the Dutch word “wafel,” which translates to “honeycomb cake,” inspired by the iconic grid pattern. Waffles date back to medieval Europe, where they were originally cooked between two metal plates over an open fire. Over time, they evolved into the modern delights we know today, with Belgium gaining fame for their fluffy, golden waffles often served with powdered sugar and strawberries.
What type of waffle maker do I have?
A few years ago the girls and I decided that Joe might like a waffle maker for his birthday. I looked at a few brands online but found that the ‘good’ waffle makers were quite expensive and the ‘cheap’ waffle makers looked like they might not last very long. So I scoured Facebook market place and found a good branded waffle maker, hardly used (I’m guessing another birthday present that wasn’t used) for a really reasonable price. After one batch of waffles we found out two things; Joe doesn’t like waffles (a crime I know!) and that the girls and I LOVE waffles (a win for us).
Making Waffles Effortlessly
Thanks to modern tools like blenders and waffle makers, creating waffles has never been easier. Gone are the days of mixing bowls and messy counters. A quick whizz of the wet ingredients in the nurtibullet or kitchen blender, which you simply add to a bowl of dry ingredients; and wolah you are ready to make waffles. No need to beat egg whites or other ingredients.
Creative Toppings to Elevate Your Waffles
Waffles are the perfect canvas for creativity:
- For a classic approach, stick with butter and maple syrup.
- Feeling indulgent? Add a dollop of whipped cream and fresh berries.
- Want something savory? Try topping your waffles with avocado, smoked salmon, or a poached egg.
- Craving sweetness? Drizzle them with honey, chocolate sauce, or caramel for a decadent dessert.
The possibilities are endless!
The Joy of Waffles: Turning Ordinary Mornings into Golden Moments
There’s something about the simple act of pulling a hot waffle off the iron that feels like a small victory. It’s a moment of joy, whether you’re serving a hungry crew or treating yourself to a quiet morning indulgence. And let’s not forget the smell — that warm, buttery aroma that fills the kitchen and promises something wonderful is about to happen.
So, whether you’re diving into waffle-making for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro, remember this: it doesn’t take much to create something special. With just a little effort, you can turn an ordinary day into one that feels golden and crisp. Waffles have that power. Enjoy the process, and happy waffling!

FAQs About Waffles
1. Can I make waffles without a waffle maker? Yes! While a waffle maker gives you the signature grid pattern and crispiness, you can use a grill pan or even a regular frying pan. They’ll be more like pancakes but still delicious.
2. How do I keep waffles crispy? To keep waffles crispy, place them on a wire rack in a warm oven (around °90 C 200°F) instead of stacking them. This prevents steam from making them soggy.
3. Can I freeze waffles? Absolutely. Let the waffles cool completely, then store them in an airtight container or freezer bag. Reheat them in a toaster or oven for a quick breakfast.
4. What’s the difference between Belgian and regular waffles? Belgian waffles are thicker, fluffier, and have deeper pockets, making them great for holding syrup and toppings. Regular waffles are thinner and crisper.
5. Can I make waffle batter ahead of time? Yes, you can prepare the batter the night before and store it in the fridge. Just give it a good stir before using, as some ingredients may settle.
